The United States Secret Service (USSS) is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security. It is responsible for conducting criminal investigations, protecting the president and other high-ranking government officials, and safeguarding the financial system.

History and Purpose

The Secret Service was established in 1865 as a bureau in the Treasury Department to suppress widespread counterfeiting. Over the years, its mission expanded to include protecting the president and other high-ranking government officials. In 2003, the Secret Service was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.

Director and Operations

The director of the United States Secret Service is the head of the agency and is responsible for its day-to-day operations. The Secret Service has a staff of over 7,000 employees and operates in over 100 cities worldwide.
