Heads Unbeaten Century Leads Australia To Odi Win Over England

Head's unbeaten century leads Australia to ODI win over England

Australia extended their winning streak to three matches with a comprehensive 72-run victory over England in the second one-day international at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, with Travis Head starring with an unbeaten 128.

Head's knock, his second ODI century, helped Australia post a competitive 6/280 from their 50 overs after they were sent in to bat by England captain Jos Buttler.

The left-hander, who smashed 96 in the opening match of the series in Adelaide on Sunday, shared in a crucial 150-run stand with Steve Smith (80 off 93) for the third wicket, after openers David Warner and Aaron Finch fell cheaply.

Cameron Green (35 not out off 23) also played a late cameo, smashing three sixes in his brief innings, to give Australia a strong total to defend.

In reply, England were never really in the hunt, losing wickets at regular intervals, and were eventually bowled out for 208 in the 43rd over.

Dawid Malan top-scored for England with a gutsy 82 off 77, while Buttler contributed 42 and Sam Billings a quickfire 34, but the tourists were unable to keep up with the required run rate.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Australian bowlers, taking 4/32 from his 10 overs, while Pat Cummins (2/31) and Adam Zampa (2/37) also chipped in with multiple wickets.

The win gives Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, with the final match to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
